About us

Dr. Edward "Doc" Michelitch founded the practice in 1963. At that time our building was about one half of its current size, and was surrounded by woods and farms. We were located on Route 7. As times changed, VDOT built a by-pass and our address became Colvin Run Road.

During Doc's tenure employees and clients could gain access to the hospital after hours by climbing through a front window. Clients would bring in their pets, put them in the kennel and leave the staff a note as to the medical concern. Doc would give the owner a call after an examination to discuss treatment. Can you imagine being able to do that today?

Dr. Henshaw & Dr. Goldsmith purchased the practice from Doc in 1982. Since then the building has undergone several renovations, the last being completed in 2004. The most recent renovation has been to add a dental suite.

CAT ADOPTIONS AT GREAT FALLS ANIMAL HOSPITAL
We officially started our cat adoption program in 1993 and since then we have found new homes for over 700 cats and kittens.

We work with area animal shelters that are overcrowded and we try to give as many cats as possible a second chance at a new life. For the $75 adoption fee, we test all of our adoptees for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). They receive their first set of vaccines and are spayed or neutered.

We interview all potential new homes to try and match the purrfect purrsonality with new owners.
